Mosquito facts

In Massachusetts, the EEE virus is most often identified in mosquitoes found in and around freshwater, hardwood and swamps. Mosquitoes become infected when they bite infected birds. Although humans and several other types of mammals, particularly horses and llamas, can become infected, they do not spread disease.

Tick Facts

  • Ticks live in shady, damp, wooded areas including shrubs and gardens. Ticks attach to people, pets, and other animals that rub up against them. Nymph stage ticks are found mostly at ground level. Adult stage ticks can be found up to a couple of feet off the ground on the vegetation.
